很多人问我，我博客的名头是什么意思，今天告诉大家（是不是有点晚了，呵呵）。这句话在祝酒词的时候，用的最多。To make each minute count.
Ring a bell 唤起你的记忆
不是摇铃哦。
ex: You met me in the party last weekend. Does that ring your bell?
我们上个周末才见过，想没想起来呀？
see the light 豁然开朗
中文意思是你在困惑了很长一段时间后，才看得清事情的原委。
ex: In order to see the light, you have to risk the dark.
这也是一句中文的经典成语了，不入虎穴，焉得虎子。如果你仔细留意的话，这句在Tom Cruise的经典片子"Minority"（少数派报告）中出现过。

五十步笑百步，这个就不多解释了。
turn over a new leaf 改过自新
你想啊，翻过来就是一片新叶子了，还不叫改过自新么?
ex: I have turned over a new leaf. I'm a changed man.
我已经改过自新了。
be all ears 洗耳恭听
我浑身都长耳朵了，当然就洗耳恭听了
ex: A o you wanna know what happened at the bachelor party last night?
你想知道昨晚的单身派对发生了什么吗？
B: I'm all ears.
我洗耳恭听。

What goes around comes around 因果报应
这句可能有人要说太好解释了，就是佛家常说的因果报应么，是，这里是在说karma(轮回，因果），但是中文和英文的解释是有出入的。中文的意思是，善有善报，恶有恶报。而英文中只是指恶有恶报。记得前阶段很红的Justin Timberlake唱的也是这个歌名。他也是我很喜欢的歌手之一。
Set someone up for life 使某人衣食无忧
ex: I'm getting old. I wanna take a risk and set myself for life. 我渐渐老迈，想搏一次，让我今后的生活衣食无忧。
The cat is out of the bag 秘密泄露
这个说法很新鲜吧。却是很常用的一句成语。看表面意思，很难猜出原意。
ex: The cat is out of the bag. Do you know you sold me out? 秘密泄露了，你知道是谁出卖我的吗？
kick the bucket 翘辫子
这句成语很不礼貌。一般说人去世就用pass away,如果遇上你讨厌的人，不妨换个“死”字用用。
Throw the baby out with the bath water
这句话有点像捡了西瓜，丢了芝麻。但这么说意思也不准确，字面上的意思是把洗澡水倒了，连带着把重要的孩子也给倒了。引申义就是抓不住重点，把不该丢的给丢了。

为什么要为了一棵树而放弃整个森林呢？
昨天朋友Sherill介绍了几个歌手，几首歌，是放在我新车里听的。这首歌"do you remember"有点怀旧的味道，让我想起“同桌的你”。

从今天开始，这个blog正式启动啦。我发现现在在网络上学习英文的热潮很浓厚，我最近比较喜欢看Action English, 这个节目通过电影clip的方式，教英语爱好者学习地道的美国口语。为什么说不是american slang呢？这个节目好是好，可容易误导观众，有些词句根本不是俚语，只是一般的日常用户。我的blog主要是关于美国的日常用语，成语还有俚语。我的专业是teaching English as a second language, 在加拿大当地教导移民，外来族人说英文的。可很不幸的，中国的教师工资太低，我只能接受现实，放弃教师这个职业。在中国，就是有那么多无奈啊。没办法，对自己说get real. 没有机会天天说英文，只好借blog这个小天地，记录自己曾经学英文的历程。You know what? I miss my English badly. 以后我的post尽量以汇总的方式出现。这次主要讲一些和爱情相关的习语，谚语等。
knock sb off sb's feet 拜倒在某人的石榴裙下
我对这个idiom印象非常深刻，某次领花也能淘到一些像样的玩意，我就常去逛，这是个人的职业习惯。巷子里叶子葱翠，老屋子年久失修，多是低矮红砖房，好些导和客户吃饭，正好提到这个成语，客户方面的翻译面有难色，我刚好在一首歌里听到过这个词，记住了这么个有意思的成语，乘机炫耀了一把。英语的成语和中文的成语很多意思一样，但表达的方式完全不一样。例如这个成语，我们中文里说裙下，他们说的是脚下。
ex: That hottie knocked me off my feet.
smitten
这个不是成语，不过和上面的意思颇为接近，我就归在一起了。中文意思，可以翻译成神魂颠倒。还记得Friends里面Monica和Richard刚见面的时候，they loved each other at first sight(一见钟情）。Monica这个人颇有意思，和他的Mr. Right（真命天子，白马王子）相恋之前，男朋友都是老头子。
ex: You are so smitten. If you love this man, go for it.
hit on me
挑逗，骚扰。这个是在美国片子里常用的俚语。
ex: That guy is hitting on me. He bugs me a lot. 那个男人在不停的骚扰我。烦死了。英文里说到男人，通常是说guy,提到一群人，大家，就说guys. bug是虫子，电脑上也称为软件里存在的一些错误。bug同样也作动词用，跟annoy的意思差不多。
flirt with sb
这个意思，跟上面的差不多，很多人也知道，中文意思是调情。
ex: Don't flirt with me, man. I'm pregnant.
move on
1. move on to sb
ex: He is moving on to me. 他对我有意思。这个词语不能乱用，move on to sb是指对人有那个意思。
2. move on
ex: It's time you move on. 这句话是最近我对一close friend说的，她正好失恋，该是时候往前看, 寻找新的恋情了。
