What goes around comes around 因果报应
这句可能有人要说太好解释了，就是佛家常说的因果报应么，是，这里是在说karma(轮回，因果），但是中文和英文的解释是有出入的。中文的意思是，善有善报，恶有恶报。而英文中只是指恶有恶报。记得前阶段很红的Justin Timberlake唱的也是这个歌名。他也是我很喜欢的歌手之一。
Set someone up for life 使某人衣食无忧
ex: I'm getting old. I wanna take a risk and set myself for life. 我渐渐老迈，想搏一次，让我今后的生活衣食无忧。
The cat is out of the bag 秘密泄露
这个说法很新鲜吧。却是很常用的一句成语。看表面意思，很难猜出原意。
ex: The cat is out of the bag. Do you know you sold me out? 秘密泄露了，你知道是谁出卖我的吗？
kick the bucket 翘辫子
这句成语很不礼貌。一般说人去世就用pass away,如果遇上你讨厌的人，不妨换个“死”字用用。
Throw the baby out with the bath water
这句话有点像捡了西瓜，丢了芝麻。但这么说意思也不准确，字面上的意思是把洗澡水倒了，连带着把重要的孩子也给倒了。引申义就是抓不住重点，把不该丢的给丢了。

为什么要为了一棵树而放弃整个森林呢？

今天是back to school life的最后一个部分，我想学校里的事情不算多，林林总总的也就这些了吧。
major and minor 主修和副修
国内的人也许也知道，国内的大学没有minor,只有major,而在国外如果你愿意的话，除了主修外，还可以多加一,二门副修。就好比一个人的兴趣不只在一个地方，允许你多方发展。国外甚至有人么有主修，甚至不拿学位,只有一张general studies（综合学习）的文凭。国内的国情则不同，只有一条路让你选择。悲哀之处在于学无致用的更是比比皆是。我就是一失败的例子。
ex: My major is Linguistics. I don't have any minors. 我主修是语言学。没修任何的副科。（这点是我笨了）
evaluation paper 学生调查问卷
这个东西很厉害。学生对老师的评价直接影响老师的奖金。只要学生不顺心，敢把老师拉下马。这是我到了国外体会最深的一段经历。我主修的课里有一个教授是教morphology（语意学）的，他是荣誉老师，所以被学校连任。但老头子毕竟年纪大了，做事没什么逻辑。（这么一个老头子还是个gay，对我班上的一个男生青睐有加)有个学生带头集体签名告到supervisor（第一部分提到了这个词哦）那里，当时我觉得这个老头只是反应迟钝点（我还是很善良），因而没有签名附和其他同学。正因为有了这次集体签名，这个professor提前给我们透了题，全班成绩普遍都很高。嘿嘿。这个还算好的，他之前的一位女老师，被我班里的同学告到被学校辞退的地步。可怜啊。
ex: I don't like this professor's way of teaching. Plus, he is so tough. I will give him a F on the evaluation paper.
我不喜欢这个教授的教学方式。再者说，他好严格哦。在调查问卷上我准备给他个F. (Plus是口语化的用法，书面语是besides, also)
assignments 作业
说到作业，我给大家讲个故事。我有个同学，学习很厉害。有一次他的作业，占的总分很大，大概20%吧。这位同学很聪明，考试前打游戏打的太兴奋，作业来不及交，怎么办呢？他把做好的作业发给老师，其中一大片一大片的都是乱码，老师以为是电脑问题，就让学生隔天再交，我同学得到了充分的时间，没有延误作业，还完成的很好。
ex: Shoot! My computer collapsed. All my assignments are gone. 糟糕。我电脑死机了。我的作业都没了！！
fail or flunk 失败，不合格
pass an exam是考试及格，fail/flunk an exam是考试不合格。
ex: My math flunked. I'm afraid of the upcoming teacher-parents meeting. 我的数学当了，我很害怕这次的家长会。
stressed out 压力过大，喘不过气来
ex: I'm so stressed out. I have three mid-terms coming next week. 我不行了，下个礼拜我有三个期中考试。
grade and GPA 成绩和学分
对于学生来说，成绩重要，学分更重要。为了学分，怎么拼命都成啊。
ex: I'll study harder next term. I wanna boost up my GPA. 我下个学期要努力学习，我想拉高我的GPA. (wanna=want to)
